A Moose Loose - Storelgen

July 2021

If you want to see the second tallest moose sculpture in the world, head out on Norway’s national road 3 to Atna. The magnificent stainless steel “Storelgen” (The Big Elk) was created by Norwegian artist Linda Bakke in conjunction with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) who are responsible for many interesting roadside projects throughout Norway. This sleek moose stands 10.3 meters high (34 feet) and is located deep within the forest of Norway’s midlands. The sculpture not only serves as a lovely rest stop on your journey between Trondheim and Oslo but also as a physical reminder of the real dangers of the presence of moose along the Norwegian roads.

If you want to see the moose sculpture that holds the world’s record, then your destination is in Saskatchewan, Canada to see the clunky - Mac The Moose - statue. Although a fraction taller, Mac sadly pales in comparison to the majestic and shimmering Nordic design of Storelgen.
